Method for coating fibres with a coating material comprised drawing the fibres over a sufficiently thick layer of thixotropic coating material supported on an applicator. The coating material can be used in gel form. The fibres pref. consist of glass fibres. The fibres are pref. drawn over the applicator at a speed below that required to convert the coating material from the gel state to the liquid state. The apparatus used for coating the fibres consists of a roller rotatable around a central axle mounted on a holder. The method/apparatus effectively coat the fibres, such as glass fibres, with coating materials. The fibres are more evenly coated than by use of methods such as spraying. Any desired coating material can be used, including resin-solvent compositions, e.g. epoxy resins or polyvinyl acetate.
