is heated with HCHO/HCOOH to obtain its N-dimethyl deriv, which may be converted to salts or quaternary cpds. The new deriv. is very effective in reducing blood pressure. The salts formed by quaternising with RX are also new (where R = 1-6C alkyl, 2-6C alkenyl or phenyl alkyl (where alkyl is 1-4C and phenyl gp. may be substd. by 1-4C alkoxyl or alkoxy or methlenedioxy, X = an anion).
