[Also in Division HI] Sodium ions in a crystalline structural lattice composed of a major proportion of Al +++ and O + + are substituted by K ions by heating the lattice above 900‹ C., contacting the lattice with a source of K ion heated to the same temperature, and maintaining both the lattice and the K ion source above 900‹ C. until at least 50% substitution has occurred. Preferred temperature is 1000-1400‹ C. The product is used in a cell generating electricity.
