1,173,407. Crimping press. F. LANCESSEUR. 19 March, 1968 [20 Oct., 1967], No. 13238/68. Heading B6J. [Also in Division B8] A machine for hot-crimping the skirts of plastics stoppers, capsules or gaskets, comprises a rotatable turret platform provided with notches on its periphery which receive the articles to be crimped, a plurality of crimping heads overlying the notches and mounted to rotate with the platform and to be vertically slidable, and a fixed cam which is concentric with the platform, and which is engaged by an upper extension of each crimping head under the action of a spring, the cam being so arranged that each crimping head is in contact with an article for part of each revolution of the platform. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a crimping press in which stoppers 12 are received in peripheral notches 11 of a rotatable turret platform 10. A circular ring 31 is mounted to rotate with the platform 10 and serves to guide pairs of rods 30a, 30b carrying heated crimping heads 8a, 8b, each pair of rods being fixed to a strap 32 which is urged upwards by spring 33. Each strap 32 carries a follower roller 34 which rides on a cam 35 fixed to the body of the machine, parts 8a, 8b, 30a, 30b, 31, 32, 33 and 34 rotating with the platform 8. For at least one half of each revolution, each crimping head is brought into contact with the underlying stopper under the action of cam 35, and heat and pressure is thereby applied. Intermittent drive means is supplied by a motor-driven cam 18 co-operating with a hook member 28 engaging in teeth 29 mounted on the drive shaft of the platform. (Also Fig. 4, not shown.)
