The tool holder (1) of a machine for cutting straight bevel gears is provided with two semi-circular segments (2) with internal guides (17) for the levers (4). Each lever (4) carries a form tool (6) at one end which shapes one side of the tooth of the bevel gear. - The levers (4) are connected at the tool end (6) to a crank which imparts a motion parallel to the flank of the tooth of the bevel gear. A cam on the driving shaft drives a link (8) attached by the pin (7) to the other end of the lever (4) so that it moves axially along the guides (17). These two motions are synchronised so that the form tool (6) is withdrawn from the tooth surface during its return stroke.
