Sedimental ooze e.g. from waterways is pumped, with addition of sedimentation and coagulation aids e.g. 0.025 wt.% of "Sedipur" (RTM) carbomethoxycellulose, to a thin continuous revolving belt within a barge. The particulate matter settles and adheres to the belt and is scraped away on the lower section of its travel to a collection point in the barge. The residual water flows via the belt to an internal reservoir whence it is returned to the waterway, the sediment being transported to a disposal site.
