Lube oil prodn - by two stage hydrotreatment and atmospheric - and reduced pressure distillation

Lube oils of good viscosimetric properties, suitable proportion of heteroatoms and a narrow distillation range are produced from a petroleum vacuum distillate and/or a deasphalted vacuum distillation residue in a two-step hydrotreatment by (a) hydrotreating over a first catalyst bed at 330-450 degrees C and a hydrogen pressure 80-240 kg/cm2 (b) separating effluent into gas and liquid (c) fractionally distilling the liquid at reduced pressure to obtain a lube oil fraction and a distillation residue (d) further hydrotreating the residue at 330-450 degrees C, hydrogen pressure 80-240 kg/cm2, (e) combining effluent from (d) with liquid from (b) and passing to distillation (c).
