Distillation of Oils at Reduced Pressures.

摘要

In recent years thickening of crankcase lubricating oils was observed upon operation of vehicles at high speeds under high loads for prolonged periods of time. It was suggested that this phenomenon,which is harmful for the engine,was caused by oxidation and consumption of oil,the consumption being mainly due to distillation. The report describes a laboratory vacuum distillation method for determining boiling range of oils. The application of this method to different oils is presented. These oils include sub-zero and different viscosity grade lubricating oils,transmission fluids and a single instrument lubricant. The relationship between flash point of the oils and O-30% boiling range is also described.
