1,211,799. Self-levelling suspension. AUTOBRZDY JABLONEC NARODNI PODNIK. 11 April, 1968 [17 April, 1967], No. 17433/68. Heading B7D. A self-levelling pneumatic suspension system for vehicles having a single axle 1 having at least one pneumatic spring 2, 3 on each side of the axle and a second axle 10, 11 having at least three pneumatic springs 7, 8, 9, at least two, 7, 9 being arranged laterally on the axle, comprises three height control valves 5, 6, 14, the valve 5 controlling the springs 2, 7 on one side of the vehicle, the valve 6 controlling the springs 3, 9 on the other side of the vehicle, the valve 14 controlling the remaining springs 8. The valves are connected to a source of compressed air 15, and the valves are operated in dependence upon relative movement between the sprung and unsprung masses of the vehicle. The spring 8 is horizontally mounted between parallel arms 16, 17 mounted at the inner end of half-axles 10, 11 which are pivoted to the vehicle sprung mass at 12, 13 respectively. In other arrangements, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the semi-axles are replaced by a single rigid axle or a tandem axle, and the spring 8 is replaced by a pair of laterally spaced, vertically acting pneumatic springs, both controlled by a single control valve.
