An apparatus for inducing sleep and mental and physical relaxation comprises an electrically actuated vibrator unit 1, an electric timer switch 6 and resilient means 4 for anchoring the unit 1 to the springs 5 of a mattress or cushion, said means being in a state of tension. The unit 1 comprises a flat disc 3 to which an out-of-balance electric motor 2 is attached, said motor being enclosed by a casing 7, preferably of a plastics material. Four springs 4 are connected at equal intervals to the periphery of the disc 3 and their other ends are hooked, in a state of tension, to the springs 5 of the mattress &c. The out-of-balance of the motor 2 may be adjusted to vary the periodicity of the vibrations.
