[Also in Divisions A5 and F2] In a method of castrating or docking the tail of an animal, Fig. 1 shows the applicator as a whole, the 0-rings 5 being located in the magazine 4, and the hook 10 being located directly above the magazine and in the plane of the end 7 of the tube (6) from which the rings are ultimately dispensed. The tube end 7 is joined to a tube portion which has a cutout 11 constituting an inspection window, the other end 8 of the tube being knurled so that it can be rotated manually. The tube is fitted in an outer tube 2 which also has a window 3. When the inner tube is rotated the hook 10 rotates with it and picks up the top ring from the magazine, in so doing causing it to pass on to a spike 16, Fig. 8. Continued rotation of the tube 6 and hook 10 causes the ring to be transferred from the spike to the tube end in a manner evident from Fig. 8. The trigger 22 of Fig. 1 can subsequently be operated to cause a pusher 69 to move axially of the tube and push the ring off its end.
