[Also in Division C5] Two catalytic reactions, one involving the evolution of hydrogen by dehydrogenation, and the other the consumption of hydrogen, are carried out simultaneously at 300-500‹C on opposite sides of a hydrogen-permeable partition which also serves as the catalyst for both reactions. Suitable partitions are formed from Pd, Pd coated with Pd black, and Pd alloys. In Examples the partition is in the form of a tube, one reaction taking place inside and the other outside.
