[Also in Division A4] In a washing machine main and auxiliary programme circuits are provided, the auxiliary circuit being in parallel with the main circuit and controlling washing with the use of a biological detergent, a selector switch which selectively connects the two programme circuits to a power source being arranged to operate when the auxiliary circuit is required. In an automatic washing machine an additional programme is included for use with a biological detergent e.g. a stage 9 can be switched in during stage 1, preliminary wash or may be brought in thermostatically. Stage 9 comprises stages 11 when the drum is rotated e.g. for several rotations in either direction, stages 12 when the drum is not rotated and stages 13 for heating the liquid if necessary. The auxiliary selector switch can be a time switch. As shown, Fig. 5, the normal switch 16 selects the various normal programme stages 1 to 7 and all the switching for the normal functions - heating, washing motor, spinning motor, inlet and outlet valves, detergent supply etc is included at 17. Parallel to the normal selector switch etc. is the auxiliary switch 14 which selects auxiliary programme stages 11 to 13 and a switch 20 operated by switch 16. When switch 20 is closed by switch 16, contact 22 opens to cut off the main programme. Switch 21 on switch 14 cuts the auxiliary programme off after a predetermined time by switching contact 23 to position 25 to cut off auxiliary programme motor 24 and cut in main programme motor 26. The impulse contact 27 is operated at intervals to connect washing motor 28 to the supply. On completion of the auxiliary programme, contact 30 bridges contact 27 and the normal programme is resumed. Contact 30 is opened when either switch 16 or switch 14 is set.
