摘要

1,244,061. Machine for forming and applying staples. M. PERLMAN. 17 March, 1969, No. 13913/69. Heading B4C. [Also in Divisions B3 and E1-E2] A pair of top stops for a sliding clasp fastener are produced and secured simultaneously to one end of each of a pair of stringers 184 of the fastener assembly. The assembly is placed over a die unit 152, Fig. 2, with a bottom stop engaging the rear of a block (178) (Fig. 3, not shown) and an edge of each stringer 184 positioned over a notch 166 in a die 160. The fastener assembly is pulled to move the block (178) against the action of a spring (176) which actuates a switch 168 causing a clutch 54 to engage a drive shaft 50 for a time sufficient to drive a main shaft 52 through one revolution. An eccentric pin 64 mounted on the end of the shaft 52 is connected to linkage 120, 134 which are respectively connected by pins 118, 132 to a ram 68 and a driver plate 130 carrying a pair of drivers 140. The ram 68 and driver plate 130 are thereby moved up and down during the revolution of the shaft 52. During the downward movement of the ram 68 a staple blank is sheared by blocks 146 attached to the ram 68, from each end of a pair of flat wires 100, Fig. 10, passing through apertures 116 in blocks 86 and abutting the sides of a slidable member 126. Each blank (Fig. 17, not shown) having a pair of prongs at one end is bentinto a U-shape around an anvil 150 of the member 126 by the downwardly moving driver 140. The member 126 is thereafter pushed back against the action of a spring by an angular cam face 122 on the downwardly moving ram 68 to allow the prongs of the staples to be driven by the drivers 140 into the stringers 184, Fig. 21. The other end of each staple is moved around the arcuate die 166 upon further downward movement of the driver 140. After the top stops have beeninserted, the ram 68 and driver plate 130 are moved upwards, whereupon arms (106) (Fig. 1, not shown) carrying feed jaws (84) are pivoted inwards by ram cam faces (112) causing the wires 100 to be fed forward through stationary feed jaws (82) and against the sides of the slidable member 126. Each feed jaw includes a pair of rollers (98) (Fig. 1a, not shown) mounted in a V-shaped recess (94).

PERLMAN。
