A sliding clasp fastener provided with a pair of carrier tapes having thickened selvedges for supporting the rows of latches, has a bridging stop to close the top ends of the tapes and hold them permanently, against which the clasp comes to rest. The bridging stop is in the form of an inverted "U" with a groove round its curved outer edge forming jaws each having an inwardly pointing flange, which are pressed together so as to grip firmly over and behind the selvedges. The sliding clasp fastener is simple, cheap, easily fixed in place, without danger of being torn apart or pushed off the latch ends by loads imposed upon it.
