1327684 Photographic silver dye-bleach process CIBA-GEIGY AG 5 July 1971 [7 July 1970] 31436/71 Heading G2C A photographic material comprising on a support at least one diffusion-resistant, bleachable image dye-containing silver halide emulsion layer and immediately beneath it on the side facing the support a silver halide emulsion layer free of image dyestuff is exposed and processed to a dye image in the presence of a dye bleaching catalyst, whereby the dye image is produced exclusively by the image dyes present in the material before exposure. The dye-free silver halide emulsion layer may have a sensitivity at least as high as the dyecontaining silver halide emulsion layer. The sensitivity of the dye free silver halide emulsion layer may be regulated so that the colour gradation curve is linearized by correction of the foot of the curve. The adjacent dye-free and dye-containing silver halide emulsion layers may be optically sensitized in the same spectral range e. g. with the same sensitizer. The image dye may be an azo dye. The dye-free layer may be sensitized outside or in the absorption range of the dye of the overlying layer. The image dye is bleached under the influence of the silver image produced in the dyed layer and in the underlying image dye-free layer.
