1337532 Measuring web tension SIEMENS AG 10 March 1972 [10 March 1971 5 Nov 1971 30 Dec 1971] 11424/72 Heading G1W The tension in a web 1 guided over rollers 2, 2, or the distribution of tension across the width of the web, is monitored by means of a device comprising a channel 3 to which fluid pressure is applied, and a series of chambers 4 which are open at one end to apply pressure to the web and which communicate at the opposite end through throttle apertures 12 with the channel 3. The pressure in at least one of the chambers is measured by a pressure gauge Fig.1 (not shown) and is a measure of the web tension adjacent that chamber. The fluid may be air supplied by pump 9 through a filter 10, and a diffuser 13 may be provided. Alternatively the fluid may be a liquid. The tops of the walls 5, 6 and 6' may be inclined in a direction opposite to that of web travel Fig.4 (not shown).
