Additives which may be used are silicates containing Al, Ca and Mg, titaantes of Al, Si and Ca/Si, a caesium-graphite compound such as C 64 Cs or C 32 Cs, and mixtures thereof. The additive may be incorporated in the fuel material or coated on fuel pellets. Reference is made to reaction with the fission products Cs, Rb, I and Te.
