A process for (he separation of d-and /-menthol neomeDthol or i-omenthol 3n which d,l-menthol neoinenthol or isomenthol is esterified with benzole acid, a substituted benzoic acid or hexahydrobenzioc acid; the d, /-ester mixtge thus obtained is selectively crystallized by innouculation of an oversaturated solution or a melt thereof with crystals of the pure d- or i-ester; and the recovered crystals are hydrolyzed by methods known per se.
