1305157 Cobamide derivatives ROUSSELUCLAF 6 Oct 1971 [6 Oct 1970] 46568/71 Heading C2V Cobamide compounds in which there is bonded directly to the cobalt atom an alkyl group which may be substituted by an aryl, hydroxyl or carboxyl group, are obtained by reacting (a) a cobamide compound in which an anion-forming group is directly bonded to the cobalt atom, with (b) a compound containing the unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group and containing also mercury, gallium, thallium, silicon, boron, germanium, tin, lead or bismuth. In examples, hydroxo-cobalamine is reacted with iodine and the iodo-cobalamine thus obtained is reacted with methyl mercury iodide to obtain methyl cobalamine, with ethyl mercury iodide to obtain ethyl cobalamine, and with (#- hydroxyethyl)-mercury bromide to obtain (#- hydroxyethyl) cobalamine; and hydroxo cobalamine and 51-desoxy-adenosyl-(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole)-cobamide are reacted with ammonium methyl-hexafluorosilicate to obtain methyl cobalamine.
