A mass of fibres, is fluid-treated as a moving web to improve the coherency of the fibres, by means of opposing nozzles which inject steam etc. at 90 deg. to the web passing between them. Fluid is constrained to leave the web transversely and in the plane of the web, as by jet-diverting grooves in the face of each nozzle, so that fibre inter-mingling results. Apparatus is also claimed. Fibres and tows of nylon, polyethylene terephthalate, polyester, are used to form non-woven batts, for subsequent fluid-jet treatment as a moving web to intermingle the fibres and form non-woven fabric, e.g. of open-mesh bulky form.
