Fluorocarbon esters which can be polymerised to solid products useful as oil-repellants, having the form RfCH2CH(OH)(CH2)mOOC(CH2)nCR=CH2 (where Rf is a n- or branched C3-21 perfluoroalkyl group; m is 1-10, n is 0 or 1-10; R is H or CH3) are obtd. by reacting fluorinated haloalkanols with alkali metal or silver salts of unsatd. aliphatic carboxylic acids, CH2=CR(CH2)nCOOM (where M is alk. metal or Ag). - Reaction may take place in a C3-10 monohydric alcohol, a fluorinated aliphatic alcohol or an ether, at temps. of 80 to 200 deg.C. in the presence of a polymerisation inhibitor.
