The invention comprises compounds of the Formula (I) wherein RSP1/SP and RSP2/SP are each a hydrogen atom or a CHRSP3/SPCOOH radical, where RSP3/SP is a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl radical and C 12 H 25 is a lauryl radical or a mixture of C 8-18 alkyl radicals the average number of carbon atoms in the alkyl radical being twelve. They are prepared by reacting a C 12 H 25 halide with diethylenetriamine and chlorobenzyl chloride and, if desired, reacting the product with an -haloaliphatic acid containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms or an alkali metal salt thereof. The compounds of Formula (I) have disinfectant, preservative and detergent properties.
