Scopolamine carbamate and thiourethane derivs - with scopolamine action on nervous system

(-)-Scopolamine carbamate and thiourethane derivs. of general formula: (where R is 1-16C alkyl, acyl, aryl or aroyl specifically benzoyl and Y is O or S) have a modified scopolamine action on either the peripheral or central nervous system. Prepn. is by reaction of (-)-scopolamine with excess of an isocyanate or thiocyanate under press. at 80-100 degrees in a solvent e.g. benzene. The product is purified by chromatography on Kieselgel with a mixture of benzene and MeOH.
