Large, pref. thick walled rotation symmetrical glass type material hollow objects are centrifugally cast onto a rotating fluid layer consisting of molten metal and/or salt and/or metal oxide. Adjustments to viscosity are made by means of temp. pressure, speed of rotation, electrical current passage and/or reaction with the containing layer. A sn or Sn-alloy melt layer is pref. employed. The prefd. glass bath viscosity during casting is 107 Poise. Rotation is continued until solidification. The process yields good surface characteristics and greatly reduces refractory consumption. As result of low friction energy requirements for rotation are low.
