Steam separator with cyclones - esp for water reactors - suitable for part load operation

A vapour-liqud separator, espically a steam separator for use with water reactors or de-superheaters, comprising downward flow cyclones arranged above an uptake chamber with removal of precipitated water to a fall-chamber, has the uptake chamber fitted with a projecting roof in which the cyclones are mounted. The roof acts as dividing wall from the water chamber in the pressure vessel, the steam outlet pipes from the cyclones passing upwards through the roof while the mixture inlet to the cyclones takes place axially downwards below the roof; water removal ducts are provided for individual groups of cyclones, to conduct the separated water to the fall-chamber. The system is especially suitable for part load operatin of water reactors. The water level in the fall-chamber is easily measured and the entrainment of steam into the separated water is prevented, thus preventing risk of steam flow-back.
