The work on the development of a downflow cyclone type steam separator for use in large BWR with direct cycle has been com¬pleted during the reported quarter, it has been conducted with air/water-two-phase media. The measurements that have been made on nine different cyclones during the programme for the optimization of several dimensions of the single cyclone have also been the last part of the contract O83-66-1 TEED.nWithin the reported period first the influence of the steam outlet pipe diameter has been tested. A reduction of this diameter pro¬duced a distinct reduction in pressure drop, but it is still to examine to what extent this improvement will be neutralized when the cyclone works in a steam-water-flow;in this case the pressure drop in the steam outlet pipe is expected to increase quite more with reducing the diameter because of the higher steam density compared to air.
