gamma-Phenyl-gamma-hydroxy-crotonlactam of formula : (in which R is H or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical; X is a halogen; and Y is a halogen or an aromatic radical linked with the ring via S atom) is prepd. by the process similar to that described in parent patent, namely by reacting the corresp. gamma-phenyl-gamma-halogenocrotonlactone with NHO or RNH2 at a temp. above +20 degrees C, in partic. up to 90 degrees C, pref. at 30-60 degrees C.
