The end face seal is intended for a trochoidal rotary piston engine in which the end faces of the piston are provided with a concentric groove containing a spring-loaded sliding ring (4) of L-shaped cross-section in which the sealing ring (15) is arranged. The sealing ring has aC-shaped cross-section and consists of a resilient metallic material. - It is in sealing engagement with one side (12) of the groove and one leg of the L-section ring opposite to that side. The outer surface of the seal ring may be coated (20). A corrugated spring ring (14) may be provided between the bottom (13) of the groove and the sliding ring, which spring engages the bottom on one side and, via the seal ring, engages the sliding ring.
