Bare pins are wetted or impregnated, in several stops, once or several times with suspensions and/or solns. contg. (i) reducing but no oxidising agents and, once or several times with suspensions and/or solns. (ii) contg. oxidising but no reducing agents, in opt. sequence but esp. with (i) preceding (ii), followed by drying after each step, esp. at 150-200 degrees after (i) and at 40-60 degrees C for pins coated with both reducing and oxidising agents, to produce ignition pins, e.g. for inducing combustion or as flash agents in photography. Suspensions and/or solns. may also contain desensitisers. An impregnation with desensitiers, esp. with a nitrocellulose lacquer or water glass, may be effected between each impregnation with reducing or oxidising agents. Finished ignition pins may be impregnated in sections with desensitisers.
