Oriented filamentary pptns. of a Cu-Nb-Sn eutectic are formed in a Cu or Al matrix, and the cross-section of the product is then reduced so that the distances between the pptns. become very small and the tunnel effect is operative. The wires are used for magnet coils. Their heat stability is improved because the specific surface area of the superconductive filaments is large and heat produced therein can be easily dissipated through the Cu or Al matrix.
