The filter, esp. for tobacco smoke, formed from a layer of interlaced glass microfibres of thickness 4.5-3.0 pref 3.5 mu has multiple lateral hydrophilic groups, pref. of type SiOH or OH which provide it with increased hydrophilicity towards water and water-like compds. and non-protonic compds. such as pyridine tert amides ethers etc.
