1314136 Compositions for dental care; plant extracts KEIMDIAT GmbH 28 July 1971 [5 Aug 1970] 35553/71 Heading A5B Pharmaceutical compositions for dental or oral applications for the prevention and cure of gingiritis and periodontitis in the form of a toothpaste, a tooth ointment, a mouthwash or a tincture include, as the active ingredient, ground bark and/or an extract from the wood, the bark or the leaves of the tree Azadirachta indica (Neem or Nim tree). The extract may be produced from the wood, bark or leaves of Azadirachta indica by extraction with methanol; ethanol; dimethylformamide and/or dimethylsulphoxide. The compositions may contain a dental detergent, an antiseptic, a demulcent, an emollient, an astringent, an ointment base (comprising soft paraffin, vegetable oils, synthetic esters of fatty acids or wool fat) a preservative an emulsifying agent, fluorinecontaining compounds (such as fluorides), vitamins, tanning agents and/or aromatic substances (such as essential oils, e.g. oil of anise, cade, cajeput, caraway, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, dill, peppermint or wintergreen). Extracts for use in the prevention and cure of gingivitis and periodontitis are prepared from the wood, bark or leaves of Azadirachta indica (Neem or Nim tree) by extraction with methanol; ethanol; dimethylformamide and/or dimethylsulphoxide.
