Electrical contacts - by coating silver contact with silver-silicon alloy, oxidising and bonding

Composite material for electrical contact pieces is produced by (a) coating the contact layer of silver material with a silver alloy contg. 0.05-1%, pref. 0.1-0.5% silicon on its surface facing a metallic support, (b) subjecting the coated contact layer to oxidising treatment, and (c) fixing the oxidised contact layer onto the support. Stage (c) may be effected before stage (b). The contact layer is bonded very firmly to the metallic support. The contact layer can be utilised entierly, and maintains constant properties during a prolonged service life.
