Cpds. of formula (I) are prepd. from thiazole-4-carboxylic acid and ethylchloroformate in presence of triethylamine, and by condensing the resulting mixed anhydride (not isolated) with o-phenylenediamine at room temp. to the novel thiazole-4-(o-aminophenyl)-caboxamide which is cyclised at pref. 150 degrees C to (I) in presence of 85% H3PO4.
