The appts. of the Parent Patent in which which the quantity of alkali pumped in to maintain the pH of a soln. through which air is drawn indicates level of acid contamination, is modified by using peristaltic pumps to obviate need for valves preventing back flow, and to aid measurement. A pH meter is used to control operation of pump and a cam on the pump may be used to drive impulse generator activating electronic counter. A further pump under level control, compensating for evapn. by introducing distilled watre, is also replaced by the peristaltic type. Used to monitor SO2 levels in the atmos.
