Hydroxocobalamine from cyanocobalamine - using metal salts as complexing agents

Process for preparing hydroxocobalamine by reacting, at ambient temp., cyanocobalamine, dissolved in water or an aqueous solution, with a metal salt in aqueous soln., in a non-acid medium. The metal salts are pref. salts of Ag (esp. AgNO3), Ni or Co. The crude product obtained is purified, and the hydroxocobalamine isolated as a strong acid salt. For producing hydroxocobalamine in good yield. The product is of good purify. The reaction uses the complexing properties of the metals. After the reaction, the solution is filtered and acetone added to ppte, a crude product which is then purified.
