Underlay fabric - for preventing a rug slipping on a carpet has anti-slip upper surface

An underlay fabric for locating between a rug and carpet to prevent the rug slipping includes a lower carpet contacting ply of air permeable flexible material (e.g. plastic foam) and a rug contacting upper ply (e.g. of synthetic rubber) having on its rug contacting face a series of ribs defining air channels between them and presenting an antislip surface. Pref. the ribs are sinuous and are provided in distinct square zones whereby the ribs in one zone are perpendicular to the ribs in an adjacent zone and pref. an intermediate ply of good electrically insulating material (e.g. woven cotton fabric) is provided between the upper and lower plies. Damage to the carpet pile and build up of static electricity is reduced.
