摘要
Essential oils, e.g. oil of pine, cajuput or eucalyptus are oxidized at not more than 80 DEG C. by the passage therethrough of a current of oxygen-rich gas, preferably in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. cobalt abietate, and the oxidation products (hydroxylated, carbonylated and carboxylated derivatives) are separated from unreacted oil may be fractional distillation; the unreacted oil may be recycled. The oxidation, for example with 90% air, 10% oxygen, is preferably carried out in a first phase at room temperature and in a second phase at 50-55 DEG C. with the catalyst introduced in separate portions during the first phase; the products will form well-defined hydrazones, and are claimed per se.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations with therapeutic activity towards respiratory ailments comprise an inert carrier and the oxidation product of pine, cajuput or eucalyptus essence. The said oxidation products are characterised by a yellow colour and the formation of a hydrazone, and are stated to by hydroxylated, carbonylated and carboxylated derivatives; they are derived from the essential oils by catalytic oxidation at under 80 DEG C., (see Division C5)
