1329819 Rasping tyres W SCHAFER 18 Nov 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 53710/71 Heading B4B A machine for dressing the periphery of a tyre prior to re-treading comprises a dressing tool 8 formed by a number of blades, the tool and the mounting means for the tyre being reciprocable horizontally whereby the tool is guided across the profile of the tyre and the tool being reciprocable vertically relative to the mounting means whereby to bring individual dressing blades successively into contact with the tyre. The tool is rotated by an electric motor 9 which is mounted on a plate via rods 11 so that by means of a piston-and-cylinder device the motor and tool can be raised and lowered during its rotation. The plate is also mounted on rods 10 so that by means of a pair of piston-andcylinder devices the motor and tool are reciprocated in a horizontal direction; by means of throttle valves and limit switches the speed and stroke of the reciprocation can be varied. In order to dress around the curved surface of the tyre, the latter is reciprocated towards and away from the tool by means of cam 12. A dust extraction hood 16 is mounted around the tool and is pivoted by a linkage device 18 in order to permit the relative movement of the tool and tyre. The tyre is itself rotated by means of a roller 15 which may consist of part spherical sections and be resilient e.g. inflated hollow rubber members.
