1380495 Vehicle lamps DUCELLIER & CIE 7 Feb 1972 [16 Feb 1971] 5478/72 Heading F4R A motor vehicle headlamp comprises a dipping filament 2 which is partly masked by a screen 1 wherein the inclination of the filament axis to the axis of the reflector 4 is adjustable and the orientation of the screen 1 with respect to the filament 2 is adjustable, so that, with an additional light reflecting, refracting or absorbing element 7, the pattern of light emission shown in Fig. 2 is obtained, where V-V is a vertical through -the reflector axis and L-L is a horizontal. As shown in Figs. 7 and 8 the element 7 is a section of a paraboloidal mirror 11 fitted adjacent the centre of reflector. Alternatively, if a part of reflector 4 is made transparent, a mirror 7 may be disposed outside the lamp enclosure, or the mirror 7 may be formed by directly deforming the reflector 4. As a further alternative the element may be formed by an absorbent non-reflective zone on the reflector comprising black paint or cutting the reflector itself. A still further alternative, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), form of the element comprises a dioptric element (8) which forms a part of front glass 6 of the lamp. In effecting the adjustment, the lamp is first inclined at an angle # to the axis X-X of the reflector and then the lamp is rotated about the filament axis an angle # to form a completely horizontal cut-off boundary, Fig. 4 (not shown). The provision of the element 7 adjacent the centre of the reflector then produces the cut-off boundary of Fig. 2.
