[Also in Division B5] An extruded synthetic plastic tube or extended profile 4, e.g. a channel of U-cross section, is provided with partitions 7 also of synthetic plastic material, which are inserted into the tube from a magazine 14 by a fluid-pressure operated plunger 8. In the embodiment shown, particularly intended for partitioning tubes of circular cross-section, each partition 7 is provided with a helical resistance wire 7a and diametrically opposed contacts 7b, and the head 9 of plunger 8 has contacts 12a attached to supply leads 12. In operation, a partition 7 is removed from the magazine and at the appropriate position is held against a suction head 10 by retraction of a conical valve 11a to provide a partial vacuum derived from a conduit 11. The partition is fused in position by passage of an electric current through wire 7a. To ensure that connection is made between contacts 7b and 12a and hence supply leads 12, channel 3 of die head 2 is internally grooved and each partition is rotated by co-operation of a nose 7c with the grooving until the contacts abut, the resistance to rotation then being considerably greater than the force of rotation. Modifications include mechanical or magnetic holding means instead of suction cup 10, particularly when apertured partitions are used, creation of a partial vacuum within plunger 8 instead of by external means and dispensing with the need to rotate the partitions by providing them with semi-circular contacts. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), more particularly for partitioning extended profiles, e.g. for use as cover troughs for long field lights, a reciprocable plunger (8a) has an axially reciprocable screw impeller (16) and the partitions (7) each have a peripheral groove (7SP1/SP) communicating with the inner surface of the partition by means of ducts (20). In operation, plunger (8a) positions a partition appropriately within profile (4) and the partition is secured in position by material injected via outlets (21) and ducts (20) to groove (7SP1/SP) by axial movement of screw (16).
