1364692 Aircraft ducted fan gas turbine engines ROLLS-ROYCE (1971) Ltd 7 Aug 1971 37211/71 Heading B7G A ducted fan gas turbine engine on an aerodynamic shaped pylon 28 has an engine casing 12 formed partly with at least one panel 34 pivotable to deflect air from the ducted fan 20 of the engine, e.g. air expelled from the fan duct 18, the pivoting of the or each panel 34 being outwardly of the casing about a pivot 45 joining the upstream edge of the or each panel with said pylon 28. In the embodiment shown the engine is mounted on a pylon forming the aerofoil 28 which depends from an aircraft wing 30, two panels being provided one on each side of the casing and an elongate strut 32 being fixed to and lying between the fan duct cowl and the engine casing. Also further pivots 46 are provided to join the strut with the respective panels. Flanges (56, 58), Fig. 3 (not shown), may extend from the edges of the panels normally thereof to provide a degree of reverse thrust. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, (not shown), the engine is wing mounted without a pylon, the pivots joining the panels to the wing. The profile of the panels is preferably the same as that of the outlet nozzle of the cold fan.
