A ring membrane valve seats against a circular rim approx. 5 times the dia. of the vent pipe outlet from the tank. A circular lifter plate in the centre of the membrane is operated by the internal gas pressure against the pressure of a buffer liquid, esp. glysantine-water mixture, allowing the gas to vent from the tank, either at a velocity higher than flame propagation speed, or leaving a gap between seat and membrane below the critical width for flame blow back.
