Coating inert with respect to alkylene oxides (not causing polymerisation) is produced on iron containers by filling them with an aq. soln. contg. a soluble hypophosphite, a soluble Ni salt, an alkali salt of a fatty acid and an alkanolamine, and having at 95 degrees C to the b.pt. to form a layer of a Ni-P alloy.
