The rotary starter motor drive has a flywheel with weights movable in the radial direction. The weights are supported by springs radially outwards and at constant operating speed are held in equilibrium at a particular radius by centripetal and centrifugal radial forces. - A source in the flywheel and externally controlled projects them outwards in an explosive manner, while the springs return them slowly in radial direction. The power source may be hydraulic or of spring-type.
