Mixtures of cis-and trans-3,6-dimethyl-oct-6-en-y n-3-ol and - 3-methyl-6-ethyl-hept -6-en-4-yl-3-ol - for use in perfumery

Mixtures of isomers having the formulae:- (in which R is the same in all the three formulae and denotes H or a 2-8C acyl). Pref. mixts. consist of (I) and (III) isomers; trans-3,6-dimethyl-oct-6-en-4-in-3-ol is claimed as novel. These cpds. have lavender like scent. They are produced by reacting a mixt. of corresp. enins with MEK in presence of an alkali hydroxide or alcoholate; hydrolysing the products and opt. reacting with a monocarboxylic acid anhydride or chloride (if R is acyl).
