Circuit arrangement for measuring the duration and the distortion of pulses

Operation depends on two constant current generators (16, 17). In the case of pulse duration measurement, the incoming pulse is applied to one generator (16) via a suitable amplifier (13) and a constant current is fed from the generator output to a capacitance (22). The voltage on this at the end of this sequence depends similarly on the pulse duration and this voltage is fed via an impedance changing circuit (23) to a display instrument (24). A new cycle is initiated with a switch (25) which discharges the capacitance. Similar circuit operation produces a mean duration reading for a sequence of pulses. To give a measure of pulse distortion, the pulse is used to close a relay (4) one contact of which produces a constant current for the appropriate duration to the capacitance (22) in the direction opposite that already established, using the other generator (17).
