Melt agitator - for effecting metallurgical reactions by the uniform mixing of slag and melt

Molten metal is mixed with a reactive slag in order to bring about metallurgical reactions by an agitator comprising two refractory, beam-like agitator members that are rotated by two perpendicular shafts equipped with drive mechanisms and protected at their lower ends by refractory material. Two agitator members rotate in the same sense, but their rotational speeds vary. The distance between the axes of the two shafts is equal to at least half the sum of the lengths of the agitator members. The agitator members are relatively small, yet can rapidly and reliably mix large quantities of melt.
