Water extraction from gas oil - by steam treatment and expansion in flash zone of stripper

Water is removed from liquid hydrocarbons by allowing the hydrocarbon, treated with water vapour, to expand. The reduced pressure required is produced by entrainment of the water in a stripper column which evaporates together with low-boiling hydrocarbons, through a stream injector. The dried hydrocarbon is extracted and the steam mixture is returned to the main column for the fractional distillation. The water condenses on leaving the column and is discharged.
